Poison Prevention- Cannabis and Other Household Poisons

We want to remind everyone of the dangers of certain household products and the effects they can pose to your little one. With the recent rise in popularity of cannabis-based products there has been a huge increase in accidental ingestions of these products by children. Ingestion of such substances can be very dangerous for children. Symptoms of cannabis overdose include extreme confusion, anxiety, paranoia, panic, increased heart rate, hallucination, increased blood pressure, and severe nausea or vomiting.  As a practice we do not recommend using CBD products for your child. The FDA has not approved any over the counter CBD products for the diagnosis, cure, treatment or prevention of any disease.

Other common household item that can be dangerous include medications (including OTC vitamins/essential oils), cleaning supplies (especially detergent pods), and cosmetics. We recommend you keep these in a locked cabinet out of reach.  If you think your child has consumed any harmful chemicals please call the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222 right away. The Poison Control Center is an extremely helpful resource that can direct you in the necessary treatment for your child. They will give to specific directions such as how long to monitor your child or if they need to be taken emergently to a hospital.
