Internet Safety
The internet is a wonderful resource that allows endless possibilities for learning and exploration, however not all information is reliable and there are potential risks to privacy and personal safety. Children may inadvertently encounter disturbing information and images, they may accept files that could damage, delete or copy data, or they may communicate with individuals that could harm them. Here are some tips that can help you create a safe internet environment.
- Pay close attention to what your child does on-line, who they communicate with and the sites they visit. The computer should be in a room where your children can be monitored.
- Set rules for the internet and time limits for use.
- Make sure your children never share personal information about themselves and their family with people they don’t know.
- Finally, you can download software that can block access to inappropriate web sites and materials. Family safety from Windows Live OneCare is a program endorsed by the AAP and can be accessed at onecare.live.com/familysafety.
Immunization Update
Please note effective July 1, 2007 Georgia has new vaccination requirements for the following children:
1. Children entering kindergarten, sixth grade or students entering a GA school for the first time in any grade will need to have documentation of two doses of chickenpox (varicella) vaccine. If your child has not received his or her second dose of this vaccine and requires it for school please call to schedule an appointment. If your child has already had chickenpox he/she does not require the vaccine.
2. Children entering daycare born after January 1, 2006 will require Hepatitis A
vaccine. This vaccine is given as a 2 dose series separated by 6 months. We will give this vaccine to your toddler during their 1-2 year old well child visit.
